Portland Rescue Mission Prayer Calendar —
December 2008

And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger." — Luke 2:8-12

WEEK ONE: December 1-6

  • Please be praying for each of the men in the New Life Recovery Program to begin or continue in the process of healing; to be able to move towards maturity in Christ; and to be able to live within a new community that will allow them to experience committed love within Christ honoring relationships.
  • Vonda, a Mission volunteer, is having eye surgery this month. Please be praying for her as she recovers from the surgery.
  • During the winter months the opportunities for the Outreach Team to minister to and love the men and women living on the street increase. Be praying for them as they try to love all that they meet.

WEEK TWO: December 7-13

  • Tom, the Director of Vocational Ministry, has asked for prayer as he develops a new vision for vocational training and mentoring.
  • Next Step, our transitional house for men, is at capacity and some of the men in transition are having a challenging time finding jobs with which to begin the financial challenge of moving on. Pray for these job needs and for the development of strong ties with their local churches as they prepare to move out.
Please remember to pray daily:
  • The homeless
  • PRM residents
  • Shepherd's Door residents
  • Our staff
  • Our board

Rejoice always; pray without ceasing...
I Thessalonians 5:16, 17

WEEK THREE: December 14-20

  • Holly, Aesthetics Coordinator, shares her prayer request: "My heart is moved with compassion for the women who are on the streets during this bad weather. I pray there will be funding for more women's shelters and services to help women get off the streets and reclaim their dignity. I have met 2 specific women this week, Amy and Kathleen, who were frightened, angry and cold. They are compromising their moral consciences in exchange for a measure of safety on the streets. These are middle aged women who have hit a dead, end and Portland needs more help for women on the street."
  • Please pray for God to provide canned food, vegetables, rice, beans, pasta and meat during this busy holiday season.

WEEK FOUR: December 21-37

  • There are many staff and volunteers that are traveling during this season; please pray for safe travels for them and the others on the road and in the air with them.
  • Garret, one of the Mission's Night Managers, has asked that you pray for him in this time. Be praying for strength for him as he loves the men and women that come to the Mission as well as the people he is involved with on a daily basis. Pray for guidance and peace as he seeks God's will in his life.

WEEK Five: December 28-31

  • Please be praying for the Shepherd's Door Children's Center as they prepare for the recertification process and undergo more changes in classrooms and staff roles. Also be praying for the staff as they try to recognize and provide for their needs in the classroom.
  • Please pray for several new volunteers in the Learning Center. Pray that they will be able to learn about the different curricula and experience fulfillment in this ministry. We are thankful they are here!
